Charles LiMandri assisted Christian high school teacher Brad Johnson in defending his right to post patriotic banners in his classroom which had been up for over 20 years. These large banners included phrases such as “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance and the national motto “In God We Trust”. A liberal teacher complained and the school district ordered him to remove the banners. LiMandri sued on Johnson’s behalf in federal court based upon a violation of his freedom of speech and religion.

After Johnson won in the trial court, another liberal teacher started defamatory rumors about Johnson to discredit him in the community. LiMandri brought a suit for defamation and proved that the rumors were false. As a result, the parties reached a confidential settlement on the eve of trial in April 2012.
